Dumbass

On Friday, a high school student angry that a 16 year old girl had turned him down decided to vent his rage on everyone. He killed 10 people with a shotgun and revolver. Whether we have guns or not, we've become an ugly and insensitive people.

Former NorCo Council member Mat Benol proved this on Friday night. While they were still gathering up the dead bodies in Texas,  he and his daughter posed for prom pictures. She's holding an assault style rifle while he has the shotgun.

Although this is likely intended as humor, it's incredibly insensitive.

There's a reason why Benol is a former member of Council, but I wish he would run again so I could vote against him.

Mat (that's one t damnit) Benedrol is a man's man and you just can't stand it Bernie! In a shootout, his daughter wins, "West World" style. No one messes with her on the prom dance floor.

Is this one of the clowns that voted for the stupid bridge program? To bad he was not as good at being a councilman as he is a gunman.

I don't understand why you'd want to take a prom picture with your guns? Bizarre.

Thats exactly what my first thought was!!! Can you imagine the scene in 20 years, she is showing her kids her prom pics, "and her is me and my daddy on my Prom night with our two favorite guns! WTH!!

He's not gay. Benedryl is a man's man. He's packing in every sense of the word. His daughter is a clip off the magazine block. No one will cut in front of her on the dance floor. Unless they want a belly full of lead. If she wasn't voted prom queen, she will be given the crown or her classmates will be dodging ordinance. That's the way it's done in the Wild, Wild Slate Belt!

“On Friday ,a high school student angry that a 16 year old turned him down “ . Unfortunate circumstances beyond the control of school district that received safety award from within . So the kid gets a Remington shotgun under a rain coat and goes to the rear door. A hoodie in Texas weather ? It’s guys like Benedrol that they need to hire to teach “how to” secure a building perimeter. They didn’t secure the perimeter. They were on their phones ,and not watching the building . This photo is his business and he probably didn’t send to you Bernie ,so all the voyeurs can anons.cowards can . Take shots at him . He is not criminal ,pays his taxes, passed FBI checks and reared a nice daughter. Some of you here are not so ‘clean’ as this man, and I’ll bet would trade some your neighbors for his family . Find some dirtbag ,political, criminal or tax evading pompous wife- beater to drag around first . The rifle with a scope in photo is not a bad ass. It’s not any great stakes in close quarters or past 300 yards ,you don’t Evan know what it is.

Anonymous said...

Well Evan, anything out there on social media is fair game. You may treat your rifle like your gun but it is still a strange picture. Couple that with the school shooting and is truly bizarre. Let stalk about every aspect of school safety except guns. I have no problem with gun ownership. My problem is with the NRA and goofs like this. They are the greatest danger to gun owners.

Simmer down. It's not like Mat was arrested a hundred times for endangering the public while driving shitfaced. It's not like he got so hammered he attempted to strangle his wife in front of the kids. If Mat had done that, Bernie would be his champion. These are Bernie's ethics, where politics takes precedence over actually protecting kids who are actually in harm's way.

Bernie O'Hare said...

What offended me was his timing. On the very frickin' day that there was a school shooting that left 10 people dead, he and his daughter are posing with an assault style rifle and a shotgun, right before he sends her off to the prom. And then he posts it on Facebook. It was totally insensitive.

Anonymous said...

way to ruin a girl's night out. She willingly posed for the picture. She could have told her Dad NO. Lighten up already. It's her prom. It's not illegal. She is very attractive. I am sure she is extremely sensitive. She is young and probably never gave second thoughts to the carnage in Texas. Give it a break already. You sure tried your best to ruin what should be a memorable evening in her life. You, not she, should be chastised for putting a blemish on her evening that she will remember the rest of her life. Assholes.

X said...

Bernie, was there a background check done and for that matter were the guns unloaded? The way his daughter is holding the weapon is a danger to the public as well as the three in the picture.

Mat is a man's man. As hetero as the driven snow. His weapon of choice proves it. And his daughter was surely the belle of the ball packing that AR-15. Let's hope there was no pig's blood at the prom. Otherwise the young lady would have shot the place up Carrie--style.

What stupid thinking on their part. If the police saw this photo before the prom, they would have every right to cancel it.

‘If the police saw this photo before the prom-‘ There you go ,no risk assessment. This man is not letting his daughter that is so charming go to the affair with a Rugar rifle . Another leftist assessment of not knowing anything about responsible people who own firearms . This young lady has got more character than those high profile stage group at the State Theater Freddie’s , half the males are questionable. She would not do anything to deface her father or family , out of respect, like a Catholic spitting in a Bible . The stupid trolls are overwhelming.

All you know about this young lady is she is holding a weapon. Yet you attack young people in theater. You insinuate that boys ion theater are gay. You are not only ignorant but also mean.

Peter, I rarely take you to task for your comments but must do so now. First, it is completely ridiculous to conclude that someone is morally upright because she is holding a rifle. Second, your attack on high school students who participate in theatre betrays more than a small amount of homophobia.

Bernie O'Hare said...

3:17, I would disagree with a suspension but the actions of the father are clearly insensitive.

Peter J.Cochran said...

Well Bernie, I don’t conclude that somebody is morally right - because they have a rifle in their hand. Like Lt.Cally in Vietnam. I do not on this premis . But, I do know that real gun handlers that have family ,the children without except ,have allways respected their father ,not just their mom s wish’s . They have all followed the rules . My comment about the boys at the theater ,were directed as they were not assertively forward. They are not going in the Marines or Applying to the USNA but will be ‘nice kids’ that will not get involved in a local fire Dept. Or join the military. Probably only one out of all the schools. This young daughter of target ,I’ll bet the farm she is a handful! I’ll bet you 1,000 bucks she is not a snowflake or has an identity issue person .For you to do this issue on her prom night is NOT appropriate Her father , his family is on the the scale of 1-10 at least a 9 . Most of her peers have nothing in comparison ,and that does not happen by accident. What This gal dad is conveying to me is - that one can not rely on schools security to protect his daughter ,so he is portraying a pariody. You cannot get the right folks anywhere without a proper vetting . I said on this blog months ago , with risk of social separatists of me , that in the event ov an active schooler you need to counter sbhooter that is really great ,physicality great and understanding of dynamics . As a Governor s 20 shooter ,we did the matches , law enforcement is always behind curve ti Army or Marine Infantry.

Well Bernie. , insensitivity is not an issue when then the people that are paid to protect somebody’s kids is destracted. Be advised - that the issue of slow poise ,and boredom exist on every security site . We were on a Nuclear Access point for a long time ,but we would be rotating to other duties so out brains would not go to complete mush. Then back in space that we would make sure a 2 man riule was being observed. The problem with school security is they are hired by —- their own cops that got IN early and want retired supliment income. This does not mean they understand or ‘Can Do ‘ a hit on a shooter . Taking me out of this - they need to listen to guys like Tommy Decker NJSP and John Mazzio. EPD - I know that They are both great trainers ,and accomplished shooters beyond any police departments most anywhere. Let’s get serious . Or possibly pay price with your own kids.

Why because being gay is bad?

I can't tell you how upset this makes me. I watched TV and the parents crying over their children. Then I see this clown playing frontiersman with his daughter right before a school function. Dumbass is too kind a word.

As to the comments by 7:27, that is just as distributing. I don't know if this Benol is a vet ran or not but it really doesn't matter. The idea that there is some warrior class that is better than other people runs counter to the very principles of this nation. I would prefer those who believe it to not wear a uniform, since they don't know what it is they are defending.

People such as William Calley, Timothy McVeigh, Mark David Chapman and Lee Harvey Oswald were all veterans that showed that being in the military is a guarantee of anything. Would you want any of those maniacs to have guarded a school?

People need to screw their heads on right and see stupid for stupid. All people are capable of stupid and gun toting dummies who act like this guy are no exception whether or not he was in the military. Thank You.

The timing was poor. One can have their opinions on gun issues or have a personal dislike for Mr. Benol. But to use the posting of a photo to make assumptions and allegations and to spout hatred, vitriol, or call names at any human being IS the problem. Comments such as, "Peter J Cockburn up yours baby killer", by a high school student is what we have devolved to. That sentiment, and others, should not be condoned by anyone, let alone the adults reading this blog. The posting of that photo may not have been prudent; however, it does not make him a "clown", "dumbass", "baby killer", a very sick person needing mental health treatment, a bad father, or gay. We all need to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, are we part of the problem or are we part of the solution? Geez.

sezary said...

Yes, we have. The comments here prove that.

"We all need to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, are we part of the problem or are we part of the solution? Geez."

Well said. The coarsening of our dialog is depressing and should be addressed. Let's start with the title of this post. It certainly set the tone for the ugliness that followed. Those of us without Facebook accounts would never have known this non-newsworthy information about a non-newsworthy private citizen. The only conceivable point of this post is to snipe at a guy Bernie didn't like as a public figure, and create the response that followed. Mission accomplished.

Bernie O'Hare said...

The title is accurate. He is a dumbass. Whether public or private citizen, I found his behavior incredibly insensitive and would have posted about it under any circumstances. But you are right. I never liked the guy, just as assholes like you use opportunities like this to take shots at me. .

Bernie O'Hare said...

Jeff Fox, Benol's decision to post that photo actually is an example of poor parenting. He should never have put that on Facebook.

Mr. Fox I agree with some of your comments. "baby killer" and like comments are wrong. I did note you did not mention a thing about comments regarding theater students being less than normal and that the males are somehow defective men. So I would say sir that you to need to look in a mirror, as your own prejudice is shown in your words.

Actually, according to you, you are basing your judgment of my prejudice on what I did not mention. Since you are keeping notes, please let me know what else I do not mention and, therefore, must be prejudice toward. Talk about forming unfounded assumptions about someone and making something out of nothing-you win. Let me introduce you to my family... What exactly does this mean "People need to less worry about hurt feelings". Are you suggesting that the way to a better future is just to be assholes to each other regardless of the hurt and pain you might cause to a person? THIS is the actual issue right now. Society progressed to the point where we were listening to each other just a little bit more and then the orange clown gave all of you miscreants the license to go around being assholes. I hope someone makes your wife cry about how fat she is, fuck her feelings, right?

I am assuming your use of "orange clown" refers to President Trump. I am no apologist for Mr. Trump. However, the devolving civil discourse began long before our current President came on the political scene. Comments such as "orange clown” and calling supporters of Mr. Trump "miscreants" and "assholes" or wishing "I hope someone makes your wife cry about how fat she is...", and painting all with a broad brush, is part of the problem. Because you disagree or do not like the person or their policies gives you the "license" to insult or call them names? Calling someone fat to make them cry is insensitive. Sometimes people are over-sensitive. People can choose to be offended by anything, I guess. The issue is not a political one. It is an individual one. A "miscreant" is a miscreant, and they need no, and get no, license from anyone. Individuals can choose to take the high road. The high road is bumpier, lonelier and not always easy. Although we all fail, we can all strive to treat each other with the dignity and respect we ourselves would like to be treated with by others. IMHO

Since you noted that I did not mention about theater students being less than normal and that the males are somehow defective men, what do I think about them? I mean, you seem to assume that I am prejudice against them, because I did not comment to that particular comment. Just curious.

Jeff Fox 12:03 - Oh please. Just acknowledge the obvious - that this President is not like the others and deserves less respect as a person. I respect the office but not the horrible person. The first step to civility is acknowledging this Presdient is horrific and his followers a step above any rabid partisans before. They disregard scandals that would sink ANY other politician. They disregard his actions as Christians. They march on Charlottesville and KILL civil protestors. They are "deplorable".

I also applaud your discounting of hateful anti-PC sentiment. As one Trump couple had on their t-shirts at one of the last Trump rallies: "Fuck Your Feelings". This is how Trumpists feel. They are the lowest form of partisan and are indeed a NEW phenomenon.

sezary said...

Anonymous @ May 24, 2018 at 9:00 AM

That you do not like our President is quite evident. There is much not to like about him. I do however, like some of the policies and the direction of this administration as compared to past administrations. I do have a conservative perspective, which I assume would be different from yours. I make no apologies for my perspective. Some Trump supporters are not the only ones who exhibit the lowest forms of partisan behavior. Other leaders, followers and protesters are also guilty of what Mr. Trump is often chastised for. To believe otherwise would be naive. I do not believe the first step to civility is to acknowledge, as truth, that which you might personally believe. The first step to civility is not to look at others, but to look at yourself. There are those who would rather change their positions on issues or minimize the behavior of violent gang members, than agree with President Trump. There are those who hate the man no matter what he does or says, or even doesn't say. Of course, there are those who blindly support anything and everything he does, too. That's just as bad. It is not a new phenomenon. However, it does seem to be getting worse. The answer to the lack of civility starts with each of us. How do we treat others? It is easy to treat those with which we are simpatico, kindly and with respect. How do we treat those whom with which we disagree? We can all begin by simply treating others as we would want to be treated, regardless of how they treat us.
