Werner Opposes Jail at Gracedale

Northampton County Council member Bob Werner represents all the citizens of Northampton County, but is elected by those living in the Easton area. So he could support a jail at Gracedale and lose no sleep over it at election time. But he told me earlier this week that he is opposed to relocated the jail there, would vote against it and had given me permission to say so.

Werner joins a growing list of Council members who are No votes. They include Peg Ferraro and Hayden Phillips.

I have also heard from a zoning expert familiar with Upper Nazareth Township's zoning ordinance, and this person tells me that any attempt by Northampton County to build a jail at Gracedale would be dead on arrival and that I'm an idiot for even entertaining the notion that the County could argue that it must be permitted because the ordinance is exclusionary. He said there are at least five different areas where a jail would be permitted.

No one trusts the guy. He has told people he will do what he can to run cover for Phillips. Once the election is over, "minds can change on this". No way too believe with this guy.

I hope Werner is reading this --- Check into the HR budget more. There is no way she is spending that training money on other employees. She is spending only on HR trips and training. That amount is ridiculous!

He is part of the problem on council and can't be believed. They all will change their minds after the election!

I believe County council will do what has been done for the past 20 years and that's nothing. A new jail will only be built when the existing one collapses and either kills someone or the Feds come in and shut it down. No one has the foresight or guts to proceed with plans for a new Jail. Atleast Mr. Brown was willing to look into the options. As usual the Jail is not a concern for those individuals who live in the wealthy suburbs and don't have to deal with the ramifications of the ancient Jail. What about those workers who work in such an environment that is unsafe and or harmful to them? Do you think County councils gives any hoot about them? No ! they don't and they never will. I'm sure if it was the Courthouse that was in need of replacement they would of course vote yes. Oh, that's right they already did that.

Peter, he is not up this time, but I am sure he appreciates your confidence and support. You are a good guy to have in someone's corner.

Gutless people who refuse to share their name or are too yellow to publicly state their case are part of the problem. Bob Werner was able to successfully broker a non-profit deal that will allow Gracedale to survive an economic downturn without the threat of closure or sale in the future. Those faceless and nameless cowards who spew their toxic garbage on these pages are the real problems facing our region and our country. Hiding in the shadows swiping at those people who are at least TRYING to do something while you sit in the comforts of your lounge chair drinking your coffee, scratching your crotch and critiquing the toils of others anonymously is self gratifying, I'm sure... but your monosyllabic, Troglodytic blabber is worthless white noise. If you can do better, put your name to the issue and run for office. Until then, sit down, shut up and watch while the adults work.
