Hanover Appoints Traffic Impact Advisory Committee

At their October 9 meeting, Hanover Supervisors unanimously appointed seven residents and planning experts to a Traffic Impact Advisory Committee. The persons named are Paul Kuehne, Eugene Mills, Kerry Wrobel, Joseph Gardner, Michael Schmalzer, Barry Check and Richard Kaniskie. This is the group that determines "impact fees" on new development, in proportion to how it affects traffic during peak commuter periods. The money generated is then used for roadway improvements.

Hanover is one of three municipalities in Northampton County that currently imposes a traffic impact fee n new development. Its current rate is $325 for every new trip at peak hour. Lower Nazareth ($684 per peak hour new trip) and Bethlehem ($717 per peak hour new trip) Townships also impose traffic impact fees on new development.

Statewide, there are 96 traffic impact fees for new development in different municipalities.

In other business, Supervisors turned to thoughts of Amore, despite the coming cold weather months. That's Amore Restaurante, located at 2118 Schoenersville Road in Hanover Township, would like outdoor seating so that the moon can hit a customer's eye like a big pizza pie. That's amore. But to do so, chef and owner Joseph Jurkivo will need dimensional variances from the Township Zoning Hearing Board. So will Faulkner Oldsmobile, which wants to erect a new sign at its 298 Stoke Park Road business.

Solicitor Jim Broughal and Engineer Brien Kocher have been directed to defend the zoning ordinance when these matters are considered by zoners later this month. A zoning hearing is currently scheduled at the municipal building on October 25 at 7 PM.

Finally, Public Works Director Vince Milite announced that the Township's September 22 electronic recycling event was a success. Recyclers collected 17,766 pounds of electronic devices, 150 pounds of fluorescent bulbs and 411 pounds of batteries.

Hanover Supervisors are next scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 23, 7 PM, at the Municipal Building, located at 3630 Jacksonville Road.
