On Flag Day, Hanover Township Dedicates Armed Services Park

Not many of us realize that June 14, a Tuesday, was Flag Day. But if you were in Hanover Township at about 3 PM, it was impossible to miss the 270 people on hand for the dedication of Armed Services Park. They braved threatening storm clouds and occasional downpours to open a small park that honors deceased, former, active and future members of the United States Armed Forces.

Built on land donated by Jaindl Land Company, the centerpiece of this park is a simple memorial, surrounded by the flags of the different branches of the Armed Forces.

From Lieutenant Colonel Robert J. DeSousa (PA Army National Guard) to Major General Gerald C. Still (Ret.) (US Air Force), there were lots of speeches.

But the most stirring moment was a mournful rendition of Taps by Dan Deysher, who stood alone at a far corner of the park.

"All of us gave something," said Colonel DeSousa. "But some of us gave everything."

A great day in Hanover Township! The day went off with military precision. Thank you Jay Finnigan and the Board for honoring American heroes.
