Republicans claim Obama opposes coal-fired plants, and have last-minute robocalls telling folks in coal-producing states that their jobs are in jeopardy. The above San Francisco Chronicle video clip is cited as incontrovertible evidence. The entire interview, according to that newspaper, is over forty-eight minutes long.
In the full interview, Obama also states "this notion of no coal, I think, is an illusion. Because the fact of the matter is, is that right now we are getting a lot of our energy from coal. And China is building a coal-powered plant once a week. So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon. And how can we sequester that carbon and capture it. If we can’t, then we’re gonna still be working on alternatives."
Obama appears to support clean coal. How is that different from Congressman Charlies Dent's position? Actually, Obama is among those supporting legislation that would incentivize the conversion of coal into liquid diesel fuel.
This appears to be a last-minute distortion. If I'm wrong, please tell me why.

McCain's Robo calls are disgusting lies. When the Norco Dems do it, we rightly blast them. When McCain does it, no blasting.
It's a terrible distortion, but not nearly on the level of the distortions Obama's campaign has put out about McCain on Spanish language outlets.
The door swings both ways. Let's not feign virginal outrage at this point.
Received Obama robocall last night telling me where to vote for Barry. They told me to go to the wrong polling place (Gracedale, although I live near Wind Gap).
The lady had a thick NY accent and sounded quite sure of her incorrect information.
I'm glad they can't shoot straight, but I'm sure all the idiots who follow the out-of-towner advice will blame voter suppression for their inability to perform the simplest of tasks and locate their correct polling place.
Hey, here's a good reason to vote for Dent. If the Dems sweep the expected number of Senate and House seats, and Dent is re-elected, he'll be a senior republican with clout, able to bring home the bacon. We will have greater influence than if Bennett were to (OMG; don't even think it) get elected on Obama's coat-tails.
For whatever it's worth . . . in a state that is clearly important to McCain's chances, nobody from the McCain campaign has knocked on my door on his behalf. On the other hand, we've been visited by the Obama campaign two or three times.(My house contains two registered Republicans and one registered Democrat.) If the ground game really matters, it's clearly "advantage Obama" in my neck of the woods.
I thought all that clean coal was theory and not even in practice or at least for 20 years.
