Say Hola to South Side Script, the Lehigh Valley's First Latino Blog

It's finally happened. We're going to be hearing a different perspective, that of a young professional from south side Bethlehem "who happens to be Puerto Rican." Say Hola to South Side Script, the Lehigh Valley's newest blog.

I remember the first time I realized that not everyone eats rice and beans 90% of the week, I was in high school.

I remember the feeling I had when people looked at me funny in stores outside my neighborhood, or when I was followed and watched, although I was never into shoplifting. I remember the feeling of anger as I waited for at least a half an hour at the perfume counter to buy my Greek girlfriend a bottle of Escape. I remember hiding in the car every time we dropped that same girlfriend off at her house. I remember being instructed by my next girlfriend to say my name was Bob if her Shakespeare Road parents ever answered the phone.

Very cool of you to promote these other LV bloggers...regardless of their platforms...on your blogsite, Bernie. (You turned me on to this whole blogosphere thing early this year & now I'm hooked. And now with four months of lay-off downtime ahead of me...damn you!)

I was born & bred a Pennsylvania Dutchified Johnny Bull in NC's Slate Belt...arguably one of the LV's more "white" communities. But I've always appreciated diveristy in all its forms & I really look forward to reading LV Latino's perspectives on life in the Lehigh Valley. (I tried sharing these sentiments directly with you, LV Latino, but your blogsite doesn't accept "annonymous" or "other" blogger comments.)

Funny how Beth Steel (big theme in LV Latino's debut commentary) was the one LV institution that connected us all...whether black or white or fluorescent fuscia.

My very white, very racsist grandfather worked there all his life.

Thank you for the post Bernie.

I think I changed my settings to allow posting from anyone, let me know if you still have a problem.

"Da Steel" did connect all of us, it's a shame that it's gone. That crazy ass company was supposed to do for us as it did for your grandfather, mother and yourself, give us a means to attain the American dream.

LV Latino, I'm really happy to see your blog and thoroughly enjoyed your first post. I can't help thinking that the casino and all that public money will actually hurt south side Bethlehem residents, but am prepared to learn from someone whose roots are there. Perhaps it's a mixe bag. I am looking forward to your views when you can spare them.
